BHP Billiton digs China
( 2003-11-18 12:32) (Herold Sun, Australia)

Australia mining giant BHP Billiton has ramped up production at its Dalrymple Bay coal terminal in Queensland to keep up with a jump in demand from steelmakers in China.

BHP Billiton's carbon steel materials president Bob Kirkby said yesterday the coal terminal, near Mackay, had signed a contract for an extra 3 million tonnes of capacity a year.

The world's biggest mining company is also looking at expanding its Hay Point coal terminal and has added an extra 2.0 million tonnes of capacity to transport on Queensland's railways.
