Landslide in Kazakhstan buries 20
A landslide hit southern Kazakhstan on Sunday, burying over 20 people, including nine Chinese, a government official said. The mudslide, as a result of several days of heavy rain, occurred early Sunday local time in Talgar district, about 20 kilometers east of the economic capital Alma-Ata. It destroyed an apartment block and seriously damaged another in the mountainous Taldybulak settlement. Four people have been rescued and hospitalized. Rescuers are still searching for 20 people feared buried in the landslide. Prime Minister Daniyal Akhmetov has arrived at the site to supervise rescue efforts. |
