Millwall held their nerve to beat Tranmere 2-1 in their replay at Prenton Park and book an FA Cup semi-final showdown with Sunderland.

The two teams drew 0-0 in their quarter-final clash at The New Den - and with the incentive of UEFA Cup football for next season, Tranmere were looking to pull off a cup upset.

Brian Little's hosts made a disastrous start, though, and found themselves 2-0 down after just 16 minutes.

Beanpole frontman Danny Dichio was always going to be an aerial threat to the Second Division side, and his 11th-minute flick-on created an opening for Tim Cahill, who deftly dinked the ball past keeper John Achterberg into the back of the net.

Tranmere were visibly shaken and fell even further behind five minutes later when Dichio was again involved, cleverly chesting a cross into the path of Neil Harris, who smashed home a superb volley from 20 yards out.

Little's men managed to regain their composure in the next 20 minutes and got themselves back in the game just before the break when great work by Iain Hume saw him deliver a glorious cross which Gary Jones headed home with aplomb.

There was little drama after the interval, though, and the closest Rovers came to an equaliser was when sub Eugene Dadi flashed a low shot inches wide of the upright with around 10 minutes to go.
