More automobiles imported via Guangdong

A total of 8,649 automobiles worth US$264 million were imported via Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in South China, in the first two months of the year.

Both figures went up by 27.6 percent and 50.9 percent respectively from the same period last year, according to information from Huangpu Customhouse in Guangdong.

The automobiles were imported from countries including Czech, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Germany. Sedan cars made up 5,564, up 43.5 percent, and off-road vehicles made up 1,161, down 36.8 percent.

From January to February, 52.7 percent of the imported automobiles were brought in via general trade. Imported cars with an engine displacement exceeding 2.5 liters totaled 2,410, more than double the figure for the same period last year. Imported cars with engine displacement from 1.5 liters to 2.5 liters slid slightly to hit 2,530.

Guangdong, together with Shanghai, Changchun City of Northeast China's Jilin Province, and Wuhan City of Central China's Hubei Province are four of China's major automobile manufacturing bases.
