The first batch of assistance goods from China was arrived at Sinuiju, a border city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday afternoon.

The goods, part of the offer China made after Thursday's devastating explosion of two trains at Ryongchon station, include 2,000 carpets, 300 tents, food items and other relief materials.

The goods, carried by a convoy of 11 trucks, will be handed over to the DPRK side at a ceremony.

This is also the first shipment of relief materials the DPRK received from a foreign government.

The Chinese government offered on Saturday that it will provide 10 million yuan (1.2 million US dollars) worth of relief goods.

The massive explosion in Ryongchon has killed at least 154 people, including 76 primary schoolchildren, and left more than 1, 300 injured and over 8,000 houses damaged or ruined.
