Much land for real estate purpose still undeveloped: official

A senior official said on Saturday that there are still large amount of land purchased by land agents remain undeveloped.

By late 2003, the amount could mount to over 700,000 mu, or 46, 700 ha, according to a survey of 1,510 land reserve and purchase institutions from across the country, said Minister of Land and Resources Sun Wensheng at a national symposium attended by local land and resources heads.

He said there are still much potential to tap in land supply in many localities.

He also said the central government will also continue its policy of moderately limiting land supply for real estate projects.

China launched a nationwide campaign on irregular and excessive requisition of land last year for industrial development projects to protect the country's land resources.
