Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra hopes to sign a deal for a stake in Liverpool football club in the next few days if the premier league side's board agrees to his offer.

"If they agree, a deal can be signed in the next two to three days," Thaksin told reporters on Monday before meeting Thai officials working on the deal.

"If we don't go to sign there, they will come to sign here and I would like them to bring (Michael) Owen and (Steven) Gerrard here," he said.

Thaksin, a billionaire telecoms tycoon before he turned to politics, is offering 4.3 billion baht (60 million pounds) for a 30 percent stake in Liverpool.

He told reporters on Sunday he expected a final decision on his bid from the club by Monday evening.

Thaksin said last week he had "better-than-even" odds of winning a stake in the club after it's board rebuffed a rival bid from British businessman Steve Morgan.

Liverpool is 51 percent owned by David Moores, whose family has had control for half a century, and 9.9 percent owned by television company Granada.

Thaksin has given few details of his bid, but says it would inject 45 million pounds of new money into the club, with the rest going to buy shares from existing shareholders.
