Six people died and one six-year-old child was missing when a jar of liquefied gas exploded and caused fire Monday in the northwestern China province of Shaanxi.

The blast occurred at around 8:30 pm at a privately-run store in Zhaochuan township, Shanyang county, an official with the township government confirmed Tuesday morning.

The store was run by Wang Kaifu, an employee of the local supply and distribution cooperative, the official said.

Among the victims were Wang's wife, two neighbors and three customers who were then shopping at the store, he said.

Five other people were slightly injured in the accident, which involved four households and burned down nine rooms.

Cause of the accident was under investigation.
