Blast near hotel in Baghdad, casualties reported

An explosion destroyed a car near a hotel in central Baghdad on Tuesday, and there were reports of casualties.

Sirens blaring, ambulances raced to the site and U.S. soldiers sealed off the area.

The blast occurred about 50 meters from the al-Garmah Hotel, where foreign journalists and U.N. weapons inspectors used to stay before the war that ousted Saddam Hussein.

Witnesses said they saw casualties. Several other cars were damaged in the explosion in the city's Jadiriyah district.

A spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition said he had no information.
