Trade fair offers platform for new projects A total of 27 projects worth over US$2 billion were agreed yesterday at the Sixth Zhejiang Investment and Trade Symposium in Ningbo of East China's Zhejiang Province. The projects mainly cover the chemicals, electronics, textiles, real estate and plastics sectors. More than 5,000 guests from 106 countries and regions are attending the symposium, which will close on Saturday and is being held alongside the Third China International Consumer Goods Fair. Business representatives from Zhejiang, which boasts a booming private sector, are discussing possible co-operation with the ambassadors of a number of Middle Eastern countries and provincial and state-level delegations from the United States, Germany and Malaysia, said Zhong Shan, the director of the symposium's organizing committee. Zhong said that "1,644 stands were booked at the Third China International Consumer Goods Fair before it opened, showing that it has already become an ideal opportunity for guests from all over the world to exchange information and to promote business." Special shows will also be held by 31 organizations and enterprises from 14 countries to introduce their investment policies, environment and business projects to attract more Zhejiang enterprises to "go out." The symposium, organized by the Zhejiang provincial government and sponsored by the Ningbo municipal government and its provincial trade office, is one of the biggest foreign trade fairs in China. Since 1999, the past five symposiums have attracted 28,000 guests from over 70 countries and regions. And 1,893 contacts have been signed since then with a total investment of US$24.1 billion, US$12.6 billion of which is foreign investment. |
