People have to be kept guessing for one more month the final line-up of the Chinese diving team for this summer's Athens Olympic Games.

Olympic and world champion Tian Liang and double world titlist Guo Jingjing are expected to spearhead the star-studded team which may consist of up to 12 members for eight events, the full quota a country or region can field to the August 13-29 Olympics.

"The Athens-bound squad is still in discussion and it is expected to go public together with the roster of the Chinese Olympic delegation," said Li Dazheng, top diving official of the Chinese Swimming Association Wednesday.

"We have to estimate the overall performance of our divers since last year before we make the final decision,"he said.

Last year's national spring and autumn championships, the Barcelona World Championships, the Athens World Cup and the FINA Grand Prix in Zhuhai were selected by the Association as the five Olympic trials. Points would be accumulated according to the results as divers picked up three best contested events among the five.

Tian, Olympic silver medalist Hu Jia, World Cup synchronized winner Yang Jinghui and world 1m springboard champion Xu Xiang top the men's platform trial standings while Sydney Olympic champion Li Na, world synchronized duo Lao Lishi and Li Ting as well as Mo Hanna are leading the women's platform standings.

Topping the men's 3m board standings are Athens World Cup winning duo Peng Bo and Wang Kenan, world championships synchronized runners-up Wang Feng and Wang Tianling while Guo and synchronized partner Wu Minxia, Li Rongjuan and Fang Min are nominees for women's 3m board Olympic berths.

"Aside from the trial points, many other elements such as divers' form, training and psychology are also taken into account in their chances for qualification," Li said.
