A province has recalled a brand of milk powder after more than 150 children suffered food poisoning, Xinhua said on Sunday, just weeks after another case in which fake milk powder killed at least 13 babies.

Health authorities of southwestern China's Guizhou Province made an emergency recall of polluted milk powder on Saturday after receiving reports of poisoning cases.

The bureau demanded buyers across the province to immediately stop drinking the milk powder with Shanhua brand, produced by Guiyang Sanlian Milk Company on April 1 to 2, and wait for a recall.

The milk powder had been confirmed containing a toxin, which was created by a golden staphylococcus and easily lead to loss of body fluids, heart failure, even death after being drunk by children or the aged, Xinhua reported.

The bureau did not say when the children fell sick.

According to the reports given by the local residents, over 70 kids in two kindergartens located in Wudang District of Guiyang, capital city of province, showed symptoms of vomit, diarrhea and fever, after drinking such kind of milk powder.

Another kindergarten's 84 children in Pingba County were also poisoned by the milk powder.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

In April this year, inferior milk powders flooded into the rural market in Fuyang, Anhui Province. The 12 infants died of malnutrition after being fed with substandard milk powder made of starch, sugar, milk essence and other cheap ingredients but which were deficient in protein, fat and vitamins that are necessary to children's growth.

The news of deaths sparked a national outcry and drew the attention of top leaders including Premier Wen Jiabao.
