Chinese President Hu Jintao's visits to Poland, Hungary, Romania and Uzbekistan, and his attendance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit have achieved positive results, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Friday.

Hu's visits have strengthened traditional friendship and partnership of friendly cooperation between China and the four countries, Li said, adding that the joint statements that Hu signed respectively with presidents of the four countries have laid a solid foundation for all-round development of the bilateral ties.

The Chinese president's attendance of the SCO summit has promoted pragmatic cooperation among the SCO members and guaranteed a sustained and healthy development of the six-nation bloc, Li noted.

During the summit, presidents of the six SCO member states, including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, formally launched the Regional Anti-terrorist Structure of the SCO, and pledged in a joint declaration to cooperate in fighting terrorism and new security threats and in strengthening their economic and trade ties.

Li noted that the Chinese president's call for strengthened cooperation in anti-terrorism, economy and culture was echoed by presidents of the other five SCO member states.

He also said that Hu's visits have enriched the contents of cooperation between China and the four nations and brought a new momentum to bilateral relations.

In response to Poland, Hungary and Romania's concerns about deficits in trade with China, Hu said that China does not seek a long-term trade surplus in favor of itself and is willing to take active measures to attain mutual benefits.

Hu also put forward concrete measures to address the trade imbalance, such as increasing mutual investment and exploring new means of cooperation, Li said, noting that Hu's proposals were welcomed by the leaders and business sectors of the four countries.

The Chinese president also exchanged views with his counterparts of Poland, Hungary, Romania and Uzbekistan on expanding cooperation in culture, science, technology, education, tourism, environmental protection, public health and communication, Li added.

During his four-nation trip and attendance of the SCO summit, Hu expounded China's foreign and domestic policies on different occasions and won the understanding and support of various parties.

Leaders of Poland, Hungary, Romania and Uzbekistan highly evaluated China's rapid development and its important role in international affairs and reiterated adherence to the one-China policy, Li said.
