Bus bomb blast kills five, injures 17 in India
A bomb blast in a crowded bus killed at least five people and critically wounded 17 on Thursday in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, a police officer said. The explosion near Mathurapur, 360 kilometers (224 miles) east of the state capital, Gauhati, blew the bus apart, the officer said on condition of anonymity. Other details were not immediately available. No one claimed responsibility for the attack. A series of bomb attacks have wounded 28 people in the last two weeks in the state's tea-growing district of Tinsukia. Police have blamed the United Liberation Front of Asom, or ULFA, for the explosions. The ULFA has been fighting for a separate homeland for Assamese since 1979. |
