Yahoo unveils Chinese search engine

Yahoo unveiled a Web site Sunday dedicated to Internet searches for China, reported Xinhua.

The move comes less than a week after nemesis Google made an investment in China's largest search engine firm.

Yisou, which translates into "No. 1 search," would differ from its Chinese-language portal in that it would focus solely on Web searches.

A Yahoo spokesman said the introduction of Yisou would help extend reach into the rapidly growing search market in China.

U.S.-based Google, which has no physical presence in China, last week bought a minority stake in Baidu.com Inc - a site that calls itself China's top search engine and plans to list in New York.
