China will see the 6th China International Folk Art Festival early October.

The festival, co-sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Municipal Government of Huangshan City, east China's Anhui Priovince, will last a record long 18 days starting on China's National Day, October 1.

More than 450 artists from 22 countries, including China, are invited to perform at the coming dance and singing extravaganza.

Most of the guest artists are experts in dancing and singing. Some are pure folk performing artists while some others are professionals.

The festival will be held in Huangshan City, a travel resort in east China's Anhui Province and also this time main venue. Performances will also be staged in Beijing, and three cities in north China's Shanxi Province.

"It is held to improve culture exchanges among different countries and peoples around the globe," said Li Mu, vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles at a July 26 press conference at the Great Hall of People, Beijing.

"The festival is more than a traditional standard theatre performance. We are dedicated to real face-to-face 'cultural talks,' where peoples from all over the world can build up frienship in a more relaxing and intimate atmosphere."

Shows and performances will be given in both theatres and squares in the main revenue Huangshan City, one of China's travel resorts renowned for its Huangshan Mountain.

The opening ceremony of the festival will feature a 3-km mass parade along an ancient street in Huangshan October 1, when numerous travelers would flock into the city and take part in the activities.

Huangshan City, listed into the catalogue of World Heritages in 1990, attracts a large amount of tourists every year.

The Beijing shows will begin on October 9 and last 3 days in the form of combined theatre performance. Some 11 state level professional art groups are expected to perform then.

China has, to date, successfully sponsored five China International Folk Art Festival since 1990. The festival is the only large-scale folk cultural exchange activity approved by the Chinese State Council.
