China striker Hao Haidong could miss the Asian Cup final against Japan after sustaining a head injury in the semi-final win over Iran.

The 33-year-old veteran says if it is possible to play, he will play. But the doctors say that at this stage it is hard to tell how long it will take to heal.

Hao Haidong was taken off in the 29th minute of China's match on Tuesday after clashing with Iran goalkeeper Ebrahim Mirzapour.

His shirt was stained with blood from a head wound that required five stitches, and he was taken to hospital for a precautionary brain scan.

China won 4-3 on penalties after both teams finished level at 1-1 following extra time. Hao Haidong set up Shao Jiayi for China's opening goal in the 19th minute before going off injured.

Hao Haidong had made an astonishing recovery after damaging ankle tendons earlier in the tournament. He has scored 37 goals in 99 internationals.
