Movie on selfless soldier attracting advertisers
A movie depicting the model soldier who inspired late Chinese leader Mao Zedong to write one of his most popular works, "Serve the People," has attracted dozens of local advertisers and big companies. Beijing-based Zijincheng Sanlian Movie Distribution Company is the distributor of the film, called "Zhang Side." In recent years, authorities have encouraged filmmakers to shoot so-called "mainstream films" that contribute to the country' s ethic and cultural progress. "Zhang Side" is regarded as a typical "mainstream film," but many people also see commercial value from art works that are related to Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and other elder generation revolutionaries. Zhang Side was an ordinary soldier of the Eighth Route Army led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) during the Anti-Japanese War (1937-45). Zhang did not die in battle, but in an accident when he was assigned to make charcoal in deep mountains. During the war, the CPC-led armed forces had to meet logistic demands by growing grain and manufacturing daily necessities on their own, so as to reduce financial burdens of the people in the liberated areas and fight the enemies. Shortly after Zhang's death, Mao wrote the article and urged all the people to learn from Zhang for his selfless deeds.
