Traditional Custom of Xiamen
Red symbolizes happyness and good luck in Chinese custom. It has the same meaning in Xiamen city. Red paper is used in getepost couplets and invitation cards. The red paper also is put on the gift parcel. The cards used for wedding should be decorated with red and colourful stips. Birthday banner should be made of red silk. A piece of red cloth would be hung on the door after a beravement. But black, white and blue symbolize sadness. The natives of Xiamen are fond of planting flowers and grass. They like to place potted plants and various kinds of flowers in the sitting room. The flowers are used to celebrate festivals and happy activities. There are some taboos and customs in Xiamen: 1. Point one's middle finger at somebody is regarded impolite behavior. Some of the taboos mentioned above are still followed, but most of them are out-of-day. |
