Carnival couldn't get a ride in Beijing
The global famous "mobile amusement park" World Carnival's dream of earning as big bucks in Beijing as in Shanghai has been shattered.
"We invested 120 million yuan in the event, but our losses are up to 20 million yuan," said Zhang Shuhua, chairman of the World Carnival (Beijing) Investment Corp. Nearly four million yuan was reported in revenues every day when the amusement park was running in Shanghai last year, while in Beijing the revenues were halved throughout the entire 40-day-plus operations. Bad weather is cited as the main reason for the low turnout, said an industry analyst, adding that there were only five sunny days during the period of operation. Soft toys are the largest cash winner of the event. In Shanghai, sales of these toys brought in 37 million yuan in profit. In Beijing, where the supply of toys was doubled that of Shanghai, the profit earned was almost the same. Staff costs can also be blamed for the losses, the analyst pointed out. More than 1,700 university students were recruited for the event in Beijing, while the number only hit 700 in Shanghai.
