The 16th typhoon this year to hit East China
The 18th typhoon this year, Typhoon Megi, hit China's eastern coastal province of Zhejiang on Wednesday, arousing strong winds, from 7 to 11 on the Beaufort scale, in the northern and middle coastline of this region. The former 16th tropical storm of Megi developed into typhoon at 8 a.m. Wednesday, when its center was at 28.3 degrees north latitude and 125.2 degrees east longitude, about 360 kilometers southeastward of Zhoushan islands. The maximum wind reached force 12 near the center where the air pressure is 97,000 Pascal. Now the center is moving northwestwards at a speed of 15 to 20 km per hour, according to the latest forecast of the Zhejiang meteorological station. As the storm continues northwestward, the center of the typhoon moves toward the Zhoushan islands. Then it proceeds to shift its direction to northeast. At the nightfall, Megi will leave the coastal sea of Zhejiang province, noted the forecast. Influenced by the typhoon, the coastal region of Zhejiang will see a cloudy and rainy day. |
