New York features cat café
New York City's boasts of being able to meet the gastronomical demands of people around the world can now add to the list: cats.
Cat food maker Meow Mix says it is committed to welcoming a feline clientele to the café, located on Fifth Avenue across the street from the New York Public Library. The launch is part of a promotion marking Meow Mix's first foray into the wet cat food market. At the restaurant, the company will feature new cat food flavors including What's the Catch, a tuna treat; Gobbliscious, turkey meat and giblets; and a beef dish called Filet Meow. "We're trying to be the Ben & Jerry's of cat food," says marketing director Ira Cohen. He expected business to be brisk as more than a third of all American households now own a cat. Not to forget the human escorts of its patrons, the restaurant also will serve human food. The restaurant will remain for four days before moving on to other locations.
