A South Korean TV technician accredited at the Olympics drowned late on Friday while swimming in an Athens seaside suburb, police sources said.

The Greek coast guard identified the victim only as a 36-year old foreigner, but police sources said the man worked for South Korean state television and stayed in the coastal media village near the Nea Makri suburb.

"He went swimming after having a dinner with two other Koreans in a cafe near the beach," a police source said on Saturday.

Other swimmers pulled out the man shortly after 8 p.m. (1300 EDT) and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is a second fatal accident during the Athens Olympics after a British pedestrian was hit by a Danish sailor driving in a special Olympic lane.
