Beijing officials say the layout of Beijing's Olympic venues will change to cut costs.

Yang Zhaoke, an officer with Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, made the remark at a forum on the Olympic economy yesterday.

He says some design changes top a number of Olympic venues may slash the Beijing government's investment by as much as one billion yuan.

Yang say the adjustments will be small but he did not deny that parts of venue sites may be changed.

Beijing has dedicated itself to a grand but frugal Olympics in 2008 and a campaign to save unnecessary expense has stepped up after the Athens Games.
