Jordan slam dunks Yao Ming in online auction

Chinese basketball sensation Yao Ming may have the looks, youth and home court advantage, but even on his own turf he's no match for sporting legend Michael Jordan. 

In a recent sale on China's top auction Web site eBay EachNet, a basketball autographed by Yao, who recently played for China at the Athens Olympics, fetched a hefty 10,100 yuan ($1,220), equal to a year's pay for most Chinese.

But that was no match for former Chicago Bulls star Jordan, who scored his own slam dunk with a winning 12,200 yuan for his own autographed basketball, an EachNet spokesman said.

Yao, who at 2.29 metres (7 ft 6 in) was the tallest athlete in Olympic history, also came up short in the shoe department.

One of the Houston Rockets' oversized shoes fetched 7,045 yuan at auction last year, compared to an average of 8,200 yuan for each of the pair of Jordan shoes auctioned off in May.
