Vieira's 10-year dream in Arsenal (The Sun) Updated: 2004-09-24 13:41
Patrick Vieira has set his heart on being a Gunner for a
decade.
The Arsenal skipper almost quit the club to join Real Madrid in the
summer.
But he has now visited the Gunners’ new ground at Ashburton Grove and has
made it his mission to captain the side when they kick off there in August
2006.
Vieira said: “I can’t wait to lead the team out there, in front of 60,000
Arsenal fans. It will be terrific.”
France midfielder Vieira has already clocked up eight seasons with the
Gunners.
He moved to Highbury from AC Milan for £3.5million back in August 1996 and
will be 30 by the time Arsenal move house.
The bright future with a spanking new state-of-the-art home and brilliant
young players has convinced him London is a better bet than Madrid.
Vieira added: “The new stadium and the whole positive direction the club is
going in is the reason why I wanted to stay around.
