110 arrested for baby trafficking (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-10-08 10:45
Fugitive named Lin Shiliu for China's major baby trafficking case was
arrested in Changting County of east China's Fujian Province on Sunday and the
53 trafficked baby boys have all been found.
A hundred and ten suspects involved in the case have been arrested, with four
at large and five escaped from detention, said the local public security bureau.
The criminal gang engaged in baby trafficking bought baby boys at the price
ranging from 2000 yuan (US$240) to 4000 yuan (US$480) in Yanjin County of
southwest China's Yunnan province and hired ten women from Yunnan to send these
baby boys to Changting. The baby boys were sold at 15,000 yuan (US$1,810) to
18,000 yuan (US$2,180). Up to 53 baby boys were trafficked to Changting by the
gang.
Policemen from Yanjin and Changting worked together in the past six months
and found the last two trafficked baby boys of the 53 Wednesday. The case is
still under investigation.
