China showed its deep concerns for the safety of two kidnapped Chinese engineers in Pakistan, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan told Xinhua on Saturday.

Two Chinese engineers, working on the Gomal Zam Hydroelectric project, were kidnapped by unidentified militants Saturday morning at the northwestern border of Pakistan, said Kong.

With their high attention paid to the abduction, Kong noted, the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan immediately contacted the Pakistan side, showing China's great concern for the safety of the kidnapped Chinese engineers.

Kong said China urged the Pakistani government to take effective measures to find the whereabouts of the Chinese engineers, ensure their safety and spare no effort in their rescue.

Moreover, the Chinese side requests the Pakistan side to further strengthen security work to guarantee the safety of the Chinese personnel working on Pakistani projects and beef up security work at their project sites, Kong said.
