Gunmen kill Iraqi local official in Mosul (Agencies) Updated: 2004-10-12 16:51
Gunmen in a car killed a local council member as he drove to work in the
northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday, a local government spokesman said.
Abdul-Majid al-Antar was shot dead at about 9.30 a.m. (0630 GMT) in an
eastern district of the city, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad. His
bodyguards survived.
Anti-U.S. insurgents in Mosul and elsewhere have frequently attacked Iraqis
perceived as collaborating with U.S.-led forces or Iraq's U.S.-backed interim
government.
