Experts discuss China's blood transfusion problems
Nearly 800 Chinese and foreign haematological experts gathered in Shanghai to discuss the current situation and problems of blood transfusion in China at the 3rd China Blood Transfusion Conference. China is now suffering a shortage of blood for clinical use, said Shanghai Blood Center Director Zhu Yongming, on the base of reports of China's major blood centers during the past six months. He said China is now deciding how to enlarge the blood supply while guaranteeing the quality of the collected blood. Voluntary blood donation and the systematic supervision over the collected blood will help solve the problem. The conference is sponsored by China Blood Transfusion Association, during
which both Chinese and foreign experts, including International Blood
Transfusion Association Secretary-General Paul Strengers, will make speeches on
the situation and development of China's blood transfusion, legislation
concerning blood transfusion in Europe and the emergency blood supply.
