Young cop dies after 400-meter race
A Chongqing policeman collapsed, just 400 meters into a 1,500-meter training session and was later declared dead in a hospital October 23, Sohu reports.
Doctors said he probably died of heart failure, but the autopsy would be needed for the cause of his death. Shi worked at Banan District detention house in Chongqing, Southwest China's municipality. His wife, who is 3-month pregnant, said he had been in sound health and never been diagnosed with any heart disease. The police authorities in Chongqing have carried out a series of training activities like this among local cops, in an urgent bid to build a stronger and efficient police force. Chongqing is not the only city that practices such trainings for its police forces. The Harbin Public Security Bureau in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province is to implement a set of new rules governing its police forces at the end of the year. Under the rules, Harbin police "men" with a waistline of more than 0.9 meter would be fired. The purpose is to encourage police officers to do more physical exercise,
according to officials, in order to be more qualified for
duties.
