Tokyo film festival opens 

第十七届东京国际电影节在地震余波中于东京当地时间10月23日开幕。共有十五部影片入选参加本届参赛单元,竞逐大奖。中国“第六代”导演陆川执导的《可可西里》入选参赛片。

Tokyo film festival opens

The 17th Tokyo International Film Festival was unveiled Saturday and will run till Oct. 31. In the 12-day festival, 15 films selected from more than 300 entries will be invited to compete for first prize.

The Winds of Asia competition will choose one Asian film for the Best Asian Film Award, and that film will be entered into the first prize competition.

Four films from Chinese mainland were selected for competition. Kekexili, a documentary about environmental protection, will compete for the first prize. The other three films, Baober in Love, Letter from an Unknown Woman, and Jasmine, will participate in the The Winds of Asia section.

The opening screening will be The Hidden Blade by Yoji Yamada, whose last film, The Twilight Samurai, was nominated for a 2004 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The opening night screening will be Hayao Miyazaki’s new animated film Howl’s Moving Castle. The closing night screening will be Steven Spielberg’s new film The Terminal.Enditem
