Free meals to award lasting love

A western-style restaurant in Guangzhou promises to offer a free meal valued 88 yuan (US$11) to couples who dine in the restaurant and go there together again as a pair one year later.

To promote its idea of a free meal for lasting love, the restaurant at Huadi Road in Fangcun District takes two snapshots of all the couples who want to take part in the promotion. One is kept by the lovers, while the other is on display at the restaurant. More than 100 photographs have been collected.

"Lots of young people today do not cherish their partners," Chen Guang'en, the restaurant manager, told the Southern Metropolitan News. "They may fall in love just for fun, so many couples don't last long."

The restaurant said a couple who had dined there earlier this month married Sunday. Their wedding photos were posted in the restaurant.

However, about half of the couples questioned refused to have their photos taken, admitting they were not sure where they would be in a year's time.
