Fudan dean resigns amid sex scandal The dean of Fudan University's Economics College has resigned his post after police caught him having sex with a prostitute, the Beijing News reported yesterday.
The university didn't announce any action against Lu, 47, at the time of the arrest. When the case was reported in a newspaper over the weekend, it announced that Lu has resigned his post as dean of the school and is not allowed to teach classes at the university. Lu has also lost all faculty privileges for at least three years, the Beijing-based newspaper reported. The report also said that a new acting dean, Yuan Zhigang, quietly took office in September. The Yangpu District police wouldn't comment on the report yesterday and Fudan officials said very little. "Lu did resign. But the case was a few months ago," said a Fudan official who asked not to be identified yesterday. The case immediately became a hot topic of conversation among locals, especially university students. "It is too shocking," said Denial Tao, a local office worker who has heard Lu's lectures on occasion. A man claiming to be one of Lu's students wrote on a Sina.com message board that it is a pity to see his beloved professor involved in such a humiliating case. "I don't know what's wrong with professor Lu, nor do I know why the case was suddenly exposed now," said the man using the pen name "Bobo."
