Taiwan's arms plan protested (Reuters) Updated: 2004-11-02 15:19
A Taiwan woman, wearing a mask
calling "president" Chen Shui-bian a liar, protests against a
proposed US$18 billion US arms deal outside parliament in Taipei on
November 2, 2004. A legislative committee will decide on Tuesday whether
the bill will be put on the legislative agenda before parliament closes
for a month beginning November 11. The government says the weapons are
necessary to boost defences, but some opposition lawmakers have balked at
the price tag and said the money can be better spent on domestic issues.
