Gold mine collapse kills three in NW. China (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-11-02 22:48
Three people were confirmed dead and three others were still missing in a
gold mine collapse accident in Huaxian County in northwest China's Shaanxi
Province, according to the local safe work administration.
The accident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. Monday at a private small gold mine
affixed to the county's Taoyuan Gold Mine, the administration said.
Local farmers said that by Tuesday afternoon, the death toll of the
accident rose to six. But this information has not yet been confirmed by the
administration because of poor telecommunications at the scene.
Rescue work is continuing and the cause of the accident is being
investigated.
