The National Basketball Association on Tuesday took the wraps off a package of wireless video games and sports news programs which will allow fans to follow their favorite teams and build fantasy squads of their own.

The "NBA Unwired" suite, announced as the professional basketball season starts this week, includes offerings from Nokia and video game publishers THQ Inc. and JAMDAT Mobile .

The THQ deal includes a fantasy basketball application, a five-on-five game, a program which tracks scores of games as they happen and ringtones for phones with the voices of star players like Chris Webber and Jermaine O'Neal.

The league said Nokia would offer video highlights of games on some video-enabled phones, while Jamdat will launch two basketball games for cell phones.

Sports leagues and wireless carriers have embraced mobile gaming and sports data as lucrative revenue sources and alternative ways of promoting their brands.
