Cuban athletes aim for Beijing 2008

Headed by Olympic javelin-throw champion Osleidys Menendez, a group of Cuban athletes started training aiming for the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008.

Menendez, also the holder of a world record in her discipline, started training in the Pan-American Stadium of Havana, to preparefor the 2005 season, which will have its zenith in the World Championship of Helsinki.

Another athlete recently resuming training after the Olympic Games of Athens 2004, was jumper Ivan Pedroso, recovering from a lesion in his ankle.

Pedro won the Olympic gold in Sydney 2000 and holds nine medals in world championships - won between 1993 and 2001, although in Greece he had a poor performance.

Beforehand, Olympic medalists in Athens 2004 Yumileidi Cumba, Yipsi Moreno, Yunaika Crawford, Anier Garcia, had started training.
