Prince Charles away from wedding over consort seating
Britain's Prince Charles has decided at the last minute to stay away from the wedding of his godson because he was not seated next to his consort Camilla Parker-Bowles, press reports said.
The Times and Telegraph newspapers both said the snub to Van Cutsem, a close friend of Charles's sons Harry and William, was sparked by the seating arrangements for the ceremony, and the fact that the prince and Camilla were scheduled to arrive separately.
The family of the bride had decided that as Camilla has no official status within the royal family, she could not be seated next to the prince at the wedding, The Telegraph said.
The wedding, one of the top society events in Britain this year, is due to be attended by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Charles' parents.
In making a decision over the event, Charles "had to choose and he chose Camilla. There is no doubt that Camilla was upset and he has decided to take her side", said a royal source quoted by The Times.
Lady Tamara, 24, is the daughter of the Duke of Westminster, one of the richest men in Britain.
