Shanghai, which hosted its inaugural Formula One Grand Prix this year, has signed a seven-year deal to hold a MotoGP from 2005, Chinese officials said on Monday.

The contract was signed by Mao Xiaohan, general manager of Shanghai International Circuit Company, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive of Dorna Sports, the MotoGP's licensing body.

The Shanghai races, the third stop of the 17-stage 2005 MotoGP, are slated from April 29 to May 1 at at the Shanghai International Circuit.

The 2005 MotoGp agenda starts from Jerez, Spain on April 10 and concludes in Valencia, Spain on November 6.

"The (MotoGP) championship was started in 1949, the same year the People's Republic of China was founded, and both China and the MotoGP are living at the most important time of their histories. So we say it's a great moment to be here in China," said Ezpeleta.

China is the number one manufacturer and exporter of motorcycles in the world.
