David Beckham is confident he will be fit for Real Madrid's crucial Champions League match against Roma on Wednesday night.

The England captain was substituted after 65 minutes of Real's Primera Liga clash with Villarreal on Sunday night after aggravating a foot injury in a tackle, having earlier hit the bar with a free-kick.

It was as close as Madrid came to a goal as they were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw which now leaves them trailing leaders Barcelona by nine points.

Real need to beat Roma at the Stadio Olimpico to be sure of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League, and Beckham believes he can play his part.

"I hurt my foot in training and I played because I thought I would be all right but the tackle aggravated it," Beckham told BBC Sport Online.

"I will have more treatment but I think I should be okay for Wednesday."
