EU keeps China waiting for market status (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-12-10 14:16
China's market economy status with Europe may have to wait a little longer.
That's because the European Union again declined to grant China this status on
Wednesday.
But at the China-EU summit in the Hague attended by Chinese Premier Wen
Jiabao, EU officials agreed to help identify steps China must take, to acquire
what they say is more of a status symbol than an economic advantage.
Meanwhile, the EU cautioned China to use with moderation, its growing share
of the world textiles and clothing market, so as not to overwhelm countries who
may not be able to compete.
