The Indiana Pacers signed veteran forward Michael Curry on Monday as the team continues to adjust its suspension- and injury-depleted roster.

The 6-foot-6 Curry, who has played in 10 NBA seasons and is the president of the players' union, started 152 games for Pacers coach Rick Carlisle during 2001-03 when Carlisle was coaching in Detroit. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 70 games for Toronto last season, but has not played this year.

Curry, 36, was expected to be in uniform Tuesday when the Pacers play in Atlanta, the team said.

To make room for Curry, the Pacers waived Tremaine Fowlkes, who appeared in eight games after being signed a few days after the Nov. 19 brawl between Pacers players and Detroit fans.

"We're just going for a little more experience," Carlisle said. "He's a tough-minded veteran who's played a lot of minutes and we think he can help us."

The Pacers (10-10) have lost seven straight games and are awaiting an arbitrator's ruling on an appeal of NBA commissioner David Stern's decision to suspend Ron Artest for the season, Stephen Jackson for 30 games and Jermaine O'Neal for 25 games for their roles in the brawl.

Indiana forwards Scot Pollard and Jonathan Bender are on the injured list.
