China to hold first national auto racing championship

China will hold the inaugural national cross country auto racing championship next September, it was learned in Guangzhou Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004.

The official event sanctioned by the Federation of Automobile Sports of China (FASC) with special stages totaling some 1,000km is a five-day, 2,300km trip from Chinese capital Beijing to Hohhot,capital of northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Set for the course are such national terrain as deserts, grassland, valleys and riverbeds.

Officials of the FASC have aimed at having the national championship listed in the 2006 World Cup cross country series sanctioned by the sport's world governing body FIA.
