An Indonesian military helicopter crashed into mountains on Indonesia's Java island on Thursday, killing 14 soldiers on board, police said.

The crash occurred in heavy rain and fog close to Wonsobo town in central Java, about 220 miles south west of Jakarta, said local police chief Maj. Rasijono Modjo.

Rescuers recovered the bodies of 14 soldiers from the wreckage, said Modjo. It was unclear how many people were in the chopper when it crashed.

The helicopter was flying from the eastern island of Lombok to Bogor, a town on the southern outskirts of the capital, Jakarta, said Modjo.

On Wednesday, a military helicopter crashed into a fast-flowing river in a remote district of Papua province, killing all five people on board.
