Menotti, 66, was reported to have held talks with Independiente, the Argentine first division side he has already managed twice in the past decade.

Independiente director Julio Comparada confirmed: "Negotiations are very advanced and we've reached agreement although there's still some fine details to work out."

Menotti, who has a reputation for producing exciting attacking sides, has been out of the gamesince a spell at Rosario Central in 2002.

He was manager of Barcelona between 1982 and 1984 before stints with Atletico Madrid and Italian Serie A side Sampdoria.
