Local stars sang Mui's greatest hits, with performers including Andy Hui, Hacken Lee and Miriam Yeung, the South China Morning Post reported Thursday.

Concert organizers also showed footage of Mui winning a talent contest in 1982.

Proceeds will go toward a proposed museum honoring Mui, according to the Post.

Mui died on Dec. 30, 2003, of lung complications caused by cervical cancer. She was 40.

The Hong Kong native won legions of fans in the Chinese-speaking world with her deep, melancholy voice. Her frequently changing image drew comparisons to Madonna.

She also had a distinguished acting career, winning Taiwan's Golden Horse award for best actress in 1988 for her role as a tormented ghost in the movie "Rouge." (Yan Zhi Kou in Chinese)
