Busy city ATMs swallow bankcards
(Shenzhen Daily)

Many residents complained that their bankcards became stuck in ATMs when they were trying to withdraw cash during the New Year holidays.

Bank officials blamed overloading of ATMs for the system malfunction. The holidays happened to coincide with the year-end settlement dates for banks. System overloading apparently caused the malfunction, they said.

Bank officials advised residents to go to service counters if they wanted to withdraw or deposit money in the next two days.

The Southern Metropolitan News reported more than 10 bankcards issued by China Minsheng Bank were stuck in the ATMs at a bank outlet in Zhonghua Square on Sunday afternoon.
