Bryant, McGrady join tsunami donation effort

Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant and five other NBA stars are teamming up with UNICEF to raise money to help the Asia tsunami victims.

Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal, who scored a season high 55 points in Tuesday, Houston's Bob Sura, Memphis' Pau Gasol and Mike Miller, and Toronto's Jalen Rose have also pledged to donate 1,000 dollars for every point they score in a specific games this week.

The money will be turned over to UNICEF with the help of player agent Arn Tellem who represents the seven basketball stars.

Tellem has promised to match the largest donation by the players. He hopes to raise 250,000 dollars.

O'Neal, Rose and Sura will raise there donations in Friday games while Los Angeles' Bryant, Houston's McGrady and the other two will base their contributions on Thursday night performances.

The Harlem Globetrotters travelling team also plans to raise money for the disaster victims with a cash donation and by matching money collected from the sale of souvenir programmes.

The Washington Wizards (news) earlier sold "Tsunami Relief Bands" for a minimum donation of two dollars. Money from the Wizards and Globetrotters will also go to UNICEF.
