Auditor to focus on big projects
Chief auditor Li Jinhua will help reinforce the government’s micro-economic control measures this year by targeting large projects such as road works and government expenditure. Li, head of the National Audit Office, told an auditing conference in Xiamen City that heavyweight investment projects such as the south-north water diversion project and large road networks would be among six main areas of investigation this year. He said the China Banking Regulatory Commission and the Agricultural Bank of China would also be targeted. The public finance watchdog would also step up a campaign to hold high-level government officials accountable for their finances, not only naming and shaming wrongdoers but also ordering prompt punishment. Li said his agency would continue with his “audit storm,” which revealed corruption in more than 40 government departments last year.
